What the project is all about:
Our project is about how different factors affect the number of and type of worms we will see in an area. We wanted to learn about worms because they are very important for many ecosystems and many times, they are forgotten. Many people don’t know why worms live in certain areas and what affects their lives. We wanted to understand the lives of worms because they are very important to our lives because they help fertilize the plants which we eat.
Worms Project
Recall:
We went to different areas around the museum and we poured mustard powder in to the soil and saw if worms came out. We also tested the soil to see what kind if soil it was and other variables such as humidity and temperature.
Explain:
The purpose of the study is to see what factors and variables affect the lives of worms.
Results:
We found that worms prefer loamy soil to other forms of soil. We also found that worms prefer moderate to lower humidities. While worms prefer moderate to higher air temperatures, they prefer lower to moderate soil temperatures. We also found that worms prefer shady areas rather than areas exposed to the sun.
Uncertainty:
Sometimes the temperature and humidity readings could be inaccurate. We tested more in the shade than the sun, therefore when we were able to collect worms, it was in shaded areas.
New:
One new thing we learned is that there are different types of worms. Another thing that we learned that worms prefer soil with moisture.
