What the project is all about:
Our project is about how different factors affect the number of and type of worms we will see in an area. We wanted to learn about worms because they are very important for many ecosystems and many times, they are forgotten. Many people don’t know why worms live in certain areas and what affects their lives. We wanted to understand the lives of worms because they are very important to our lives because they help fertilize the plants which we eat.
Worms Project
Location
People can literally collect data at any place that has soil.
Our group has been collecting data from many parks and natural areas around the Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum. The fields we collected in were grasy and scattered with trees. We also collected around many ponds such as North Pond which is surrounded by vegetation and South Lagoon which is surrounded by a grassy field near the nature museum. We collected where there was vegetation such as grass and plants as well as dead leaves. The location that we found the most worms at was in John Peter Monument Park which was another grassy field scattered with trees.
